Generally while checking the PNR status and the confirmation of PNR on irctc site , there are some terms which are used inside the status while checking PNR and such terms confuses the persons who are checking PNR status on irctc sites. So here is the list of status codes used for checking PNR and their descriptions in detail.
Status Codes

Status code | Description | Details |
---|---|---|
CAN/MOD | cancelled or modified passenger | It describes that the either the ticket booked is cancelled or the passenger details are modified. |
RAC | Reservation against cancellation | This term denotes that , you ticket will be booked if someone cancels , their tickets, the number in front of RAC indicates the number of cancellation you have to wait , before your ticket to be confirmed |
WL# | Waiting list number | It denotes the number of person’s are ahead of you before your ticket get’s booked, in short it is your waiting number, if it is WL 14 , then 14 person’s are ahead than you to in terms of ticket to be booked |
GNWL# | General waiting list | Tickets issued by beginning stations and close-by ones will be under this portion |
RLWL# | Remote location wait list | These are wait listed tickets issued by stations in the middle of and for part travels. On a route A-B-C-D-E-F-G a ticket from C to E is liable to be on RLWL if waitlisted and is hardly going to be confirmed .i.e there are very few chances of it to be confirmed. |
PQWL# | Pooled Quota wait list | Pooled Quota is kept for an very important sub-route within the full route, if the sub-route is popular and deserves its own quota. Usually this will be from originating station and nearby stations, to a popular town other than destination that comes en route. |
REGRET/WL | No more booking permitted | This status is shown when there is no more booking available even in RAC or WL , so when this message appears there are no chances for ticket to get booked for the mentioned train. |
R## | RAC coach number, Berth Number | RAC , with two number are displayed, first one is coach number and another is berth number. |
Released | Ticket not confirmed but alternative accommodation provided | It means that ticket is not confirmed in the given berth , but an alternative berth to it is provided. |
CNF | Confirmed | Confirmed (Coach/Berth number will be available after chart preparation). You are assured to have a berth during travel, wait for the chart to be prepared to know the exact coach and berth. |
